Christmas is one of the biggest celebrations of the year, full of twinkling lights, joyful carols, and gifts wrapped with love. But in all the excitement, have you ever paused to think about why we celebrate this season? Behind all the festivities lies a beautiful story—a story of hope, love, and joy that began with the birth of a very special baby. If you’re wondering how to share this with your preschoolers, here’s a simple and engaging way to tell them the story of Christmas.
The Story of Christmas
A long time ago, something very special happened!
Mary was a young woman who loved God very much. One day, an angel named Gabriel came to visit her. Gabriel had exciting news! He told Mary, “You’re going to have a baby, and He will be very special. He is God’s own Son, and you will name Him Jesus.” Mary was amazed but trusted God and said, “Yes, I will do what God wants.”
When they got to Bethlehem, it was very busy, and all the inns were full. There was no room for them to stay! But a kind innkeeper let them stay in his stable, where the animals lived.
That night, something wonderful happened. Baby Jesus was born! Mary wrapped Him in soft cloths and laid Him in a manger, which is where animals eat their food. Even though it wasn’t a fancy place, it was perfect because Jesus came to bring love to everyone, no matter who they are or where they live.
Far away, some shepherds were watching their sheep. Suddenly, the sky filled with angels! The angels sang a beautiful song and told the shepherds, “Don’t be afraid. We have great news! Jesus, the Savior, has been born in Bethlehem. You will find Him in a manger.” The shepherds were so excited that they hurried to see Jesus.
Later, wise men from far away saw a bright star in the sky. They knew it meant someone very special had been born. They followed the star until it led them to Jesus. They gave Him wonderful gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Everyone who saw Jesus knew He was a gift from God. He came to bring love, joy, and peace to the whole world.
Christmas is not just lights and presents; it’s a celebration of God’s gift to us. Sharing this simple story with your preschoolers can help them understand why we celebrate and see the true beauty of the season. So, as you enjoy the holiday festivities this year, take a moment to share the story of Christmas with your little ones. You might just rediscover the magic yourself!
